Ehhhhh…this is all a lot more complicated than that.
For example, it’s more accurate to say Tesla customers benefited from sales tax exclusions than Tesla, as those costs are essentially passed directly on to the customer (after sticker price) anyway. That said, there’s some secondary benefit by reduced total price increasing sales, but Tesla has been selling cars almost as fast as it can make them for most of its corporate life so that doesn’t really apply here.
Tesla didn’t have to pay that money to the government, but the consumer never gave it to Tesla either.
To see a sales tax exclusion included dollar-for-dollar in an analysis like that just makes you doubt the veracity of the whole thing.
